When Proposition 203 passed in 2010, Arizona became the 15th state in the US to legalize cannabis use for medical purposes. The change in legislation made it legal for businesses to open medical marijuana dispensaries in Arizona. This includes Müv dispensary in Phoenix.
We sat down with the team from Müv to chat about their experiences in the legal cannabis industry in Arizona, and how Hypur has impacted their business. Here are their answers to our questions.
How long have you been in business? How long have you been using Hypur?
We’ve been in business since August of 2017. We started accepting Hypur in January 2018.
Tell us about your business. What makes your dispensary/dispensaries unique?
We think our energy and positivity are what make the Müv dispensary experience unique. Our budtenders are committed to giving patients an ideal experience. This goes beyond just being nice, although we think that’s important, too. We take the time to get to know our clients, to truly listen to them, and understand their needs. That’s why so many of our budtenders are specifically requested by name – patients know and remember them.
Giving people the best possible experience also means that we hire enough staff. We want to make sure that patients can get in out and quickly, without long wait times. But we never want individual clients to feel rushed as a result.
What do you think of the local cannabis industry?
The Arizona cannabis community is tight knit because it’s so new. Most of the people who work in Arizona dispensaries know each other. As a result, there’s a unique mixture of competition as well as collaboration.
The local industry is definitely maturing, leading to better quality of product and improved business practices. It’s something that is particularly apparent at the Müv dispensary in Phoenix. We are one of the only dispensaries in Arizona that is vertically integrated. This means that we grow our own product, involved in the entire process from seed to sale. We also sell other cannabis brands, and our patients appreciate the range of options available.
How has Hypur helped your business?
Hypur has made things easier across our business. Working as a budtender is a lot harder than some people realize. We often have data across three or four screens, with a lot of advising clients, tracking product, and inputting specific details or codes. Hypur makes it so that payment is the easiest part of the whole process.
We are particularly glad that Hypur integrates with our existing point of sale software. Budtenders can literally accept payment with two clicks on the screen, making our experience more efficient.
Our accountant also raves about Hypur. He explains that the software leads to cost savings for us as a business. Reconciliation is quick and easy, without headaches tracking down payments, revenue, or fees. Compared to other cannabis payment solutions Müv dispensaries have used in the past, Hypur is an ideal non-cash payment option.
What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned since becoming a part of the Arizona cannabis community?
The most surprising thing we have learned about the Arizona Medical Cannabis community are the demographics of our patient base. We assumed that when cannabis became legal in Arizona, most patients would be under 40, but actually, the majority of our patients are over 60. We feel such gratification every day that our hard work and efforts are benefiting so many.
